BAY YOGA STUDIO

Saturday 14th November 2.00pm – 5.00pm

Handstands — a three-hour workshop:

A handstand isn’t a shape you achieve. It’s a conversation — with the floor, with your weight, with the small constant corrections that keep you there. Three hours is enough time to stop chasing the shape and start listening to what’s actually happening.

We begin on the floor. Wrists, shoulders, spine — not ticking off a warm-up, but finding out what’s available today and where you’re already holding on. Then drills. Not shapes to copy, but questions the body has to answer. Where is your weight, really? What’s moving, and what has quietly gone rigid? We’ll work with balance as a teacher rather than a test, treating the wobble as information rather than failure.

Most of the afternoon is spent in pairs. Spotting is the heart of it — how to hold someone so they find their own line rather than borrow yours, and how to be held without handing over your weight. Good spotting is a skill in itself, and it changes what you’re willing to attempt. You’ll leave able to practise safely with a friend. There’ll be some other things too, playful and a little unexpected, of the kind that only happen once a room has warmed to each other.

And we finish soft — some hands-on work, some self-massage, attention given back to everything that’s been asking a lot of itself for three hours. You should go home looser than you arrived, not wrecked.

No handstand required. Curiosity is enough.
