BAY YOGA STUDIO

Melanie came to yoga in 1985 whilst working in the corporate world in London. This inspired a change of path to study a degree in Applied Psychology and delve deeper into Easternphilosophies and practices.

She went on to train as a massage therapist and completed 3 year yoga teacher training with the British Wheel of Yoga in 1995 and Yoga Bugs in 2004.

She has practiced many styles of yoga including Sivananda, Iyengar, Ashtanga, Vinyasa Flow, Kundalini and Hot Yoga which have all informed her teaching.

She has taught classes for: children, teenagers, the elderly, pregnancy, elite athletes and tennis players.

Motherhood led Melanie deeper into healing and ignited a search for ways to support and nurture herself and growing family.

She discovered Steiner Education and felt supported by the holistic approach to raising children and the community it provided.

She came across Macrobiotics (meaning large life) which offers a holistic approach to health and wellbeing rooted in a combination of Oriental philosophy and modern approaches to nutrition that aims to both heal and prevent illness.

In 2012 Melanie completed a 4 year professional training with Macrobiotic School | International Macrobiotic School in Devon as an Accredited Advanced Holistic Nutritional Cook & Therapist. This enhanced her work as a yoga teacher and has enabled her to work more deeply with others on their healing path.
Melanie’s Yoga classes include a sequence of breath work (Pranayama), physical postures (Asanas), relaxation and stillness to anchor awareness in the present, beyond the thinking mind, and drop into a deeper inner connection. She offers practices which help develop a rooted center and provide the stability and strength which forms the foundation for freedom of movement and flexibility.
She draws from the wisdom of the energy centers ( Chakras) and pathways (Nadis) of traditional yoga and the corresponding energy channels (Meridians) and associated organs in Chinese medicine. She uses Do-In (self shiatsu) and Acupressure techniques to enhance the yoga practice.
