Viniyoga – Gentle

Is it for you?

Viniyoga is a Sanskrit word that means “special application” and can be applied to anything that is applied and practiced to achieve a goal. This came to be a way of describing a special way of applying yoga to different situations and people, carefully considering our individual needs and tailoring a practice to suit us.

Generally the practice is gentle and considerate. It suits people who might be recovering from injury and illness, as well as those looking to relax tension, stress and anxiety.

Within the practice traditional asana (postures) will be used, along with an awareness of the breath. There will also be sound (some chanting), relaxation and meditation.

The benefits

The main benefits of this kind of practice is the work with the breath which calms and creates increased vitality, also allowing the body space and time to heal. Energy is enhanced and we can develop our meditation and a personal yoga practice. The awareness and steady pace gives time to teach comfort in our asana (posture) practice and relaxes tension.
