Kate Atkinson

Kate first discovered yoga while at university nearly thirty years ago and immediately caught the yoga bug. She has practised almost every day since, mostly in her front room, but also on mountains and beaches, in five-star hotels and on campsites in Norfolk, in the garden and in Tring Park. Kate has practised when life is good and she’s well and healthy, and when life is tough and she’s tired or poorly. Kate can’t imagine a day without yoga!

After university, Kate travelled to India and totally fell in love with the country, the people, the culture and its spiritual heritage. She spent three years there and still goes back to get her yearly India fix and to study yoga.

Returning to the UK in her late twenties, Kate trained and worked as a nutritionalist and massage/aroma therapist. She then took a post-graduate diploma in movement and drama therapy at the Central School of Speech and Drama. It was through working as a movement therapist that Kate realised the inherent healing power of yoga. And, despite a now hectic schedule with two small children at home, she trained with The British Wheel of Yoga to become a yoga teacher.

Kate soon specialised in children's yoga, teaching toddlers in playgroups and nurseries, running after-school clubs in primary schools and holding workshops in secondary schools. Kate has run Yoga 4 Teens in Tring for the past 11 years.

Kate’s style of teaching is underpinned by her belief in yoga as a vehicle for personal evolution. Her aim in classes is to allow students to connect to themselves on all levels - physically, emotionally and spiritually. It’s in this way, says Kate, that we become whole and can live life fully, with ever growing self-awareness.
When we let go of our stresses and worries, tensions and tightness, negative thoughts and bad habits, we can connect to the good stuff in life – the love, peace, joy, happiness, harmony and equanimity – the things that make life beautiful.

Yoga is not about being good at something; it’s about being good to yourself.
