Clare Wener

Clare was introduced to yoga as a little girl because her Mum practised every day. Over the years, she dabbled on and off and then found a class at London’s Triyoga to help her deal with a stressful job and bouts of anxiety. That was it: Clare was converted.

After each class, she was buzzing with the benefits: her stress fell away and she slept better, stood taller and felt happier and more positive.

In 2010, Clare completed a 200-hour yoga teacher training course with Sivananda (a yoga tradition that’s about preserving health, wellness and vitality) in the Indian Himalayas.

Two years later, she did 500-hour training through Yogasana in Thailand, with ashtanga and iyengar teacher Michel Besnard. Here she discovered the lesson she’s most grateful for: to accept her body as it is. Clare isn’t the most flexible person and she has problems with her lower back. Michel told her that the best teachers aren’t always those with super bendy bodies, but those who understand their students’ needs and limitations. And anyway, the point is more to enjoy our practice.

On Michel’s course, Clare learnt how to teach yin yoga and got a taste for acroyoga, which combines yoga and acrobatics. She’s qualified to teach pregnancy yoga and gentle yoga, and she teaches people with ME/CFS, having trained through Yogacampus. She also teaches athletes preparing for marathons, triathlons and Iron Man competitions.

Clare enjoys the bhakti (devotional) side of yoga and especially loves how yin yoga gives you the opportunity to surrender and release.

Clare continues her studies in yin yoga with Norman Blair, while teaching yin classes and workshops in London and Hertfordshire.
